Medical Translator and Linguistic Validation Consultant. Thank you for this enlightening workshop on questionnaire design. It made me realise the complexities and also the beauty of developing COA measures, and how the involvement of linguists from the beginning may be of great value for cultural adaptation. Founder and Director Dr. Meadows’ workshops combine deep theoretical knowledge with practical examples, facilitating learning the subject even for us with no experience in COA development and offering clear strategies for developing effective and patient-centered instruments. The group gained a clear understanding of best practices in questionnaire design, with actual examples of the common pitfalls. Managing Director. "Highly recommend Keith's courses for anyone working on clinical outcome assessments. I've done both the questionnaire design and cognitive interviewing courses, and they've been a huge asset to my work as a clinical trial translator and linguistic validation consultant in particular. Thanks to Keith's courses, I was recently able to flag some critical design issues with a COA for an international multicentre clinical trial. I suggested key changes which were then escalated to the sponsor, approved and implemented across all languages, resulting in a more accurate, consistent and safer instrument for patients. Thanks Keith!" Medical Translator and Linguistic Validation Consultant. The Questionnaire Design Masterclass led by Dr. Keith Meadows gave a clear, well-structured account of the scientific process behind designing COA questionnaires. The examples of wording problems were especially useful: issues such as double-barreled questions are easy to miss, yet they can cause real comprehension and data quality problems later on. The small-group format made the online session interactive and kept the discussion focused. My work with COAs is on the linguistic validation side, so the course gave me a better understanding of the development side. I can recommend the masterclass to translation and linguistic validation teams, sponsors, CROs, clinical operations professionals, and COA developers. Questionnaire Design Masterclass
A Small-Group Online Interactive Workshop for Researchers involved in the development and evaluation of questionnaires & COA measures Questionnaire design is often viewed as a straightforward process: identify a concept, write some questions, and test the measure. In reality, developing a questionnaire that is relevant, valid, and capable of generating meaningful data requires careful thought at every stage. Many courses explain how questionnaires are developed. This online masterclass focuses on the decisions, challenges, and practical considerations that arise when developing them. This interactive masterclass is designed for researchers, health economists, linguists and others involved in the development and evaluation of questionnaires and clinical outcome asssement (COA) measures. Through a combination of practical examples, discussion, and real-world case studies, participants will explore key aspects of questionnaire design, from concept elicitation and item generation and wording through to cognitive interviewing. Unlike larger training courses, this masterclass is intentionally limited to a maximum of five participants to encourage discussion, interaction, and the exchange of ideas. Participants are encouraged to bring their own questions, challenges, and experiences for discussion throughout the session. What makes this masterclass different? ✓ Direct access to over 30 years of experience in questionnaire design and Clinical Outcome Assessment research ✓ Real discussion and interaction rather than lecture-based teaching ✓ Individual feedback and practical guidance ✓ Opportunity to discuss your own projects and questionnaire development ✓ Peer learning through small-group discussion and shared experiences Whether you are developing a new questionnaire, evaluating an existing measure, or seeking a deeper understanding of best practice in questionnaire design, this masterclass will provide practical insights that can be applied immediately to your work. Following attendance at the masterclass you will recieve a certificate confirming confirming your attendance. Programme* Part 1: 10.00-11.30
- Guidelines for using conventional language - Keeping questions closed or open - Question sequencing - Response choices and measurement
11.30-11.45 Break Part 2: 11.45-13.30 Part 2 of the workshop will be primarily a practical moderated exercise in which participants will work together in the evaluation of a number of questionnaire items using the knowledge gained in Part 1. This will include participants own questions and challenges. *Please note these timings are approximate. How you will benefit Following the workshop you will have an understanding of questionnaire design that will help minimize design errors by ensuring that questions are clear, concise, and unambiguous. Following the workshop you will be able to:
